Los Angeles is one of our favorite cities- there is always something to do there and the weather is unbeatable and we’re saying that as group of Aussies no less. For this reason, we have compiled a list of the top 10 destinations every LA visitor must hit up. Admittedly, some of our recommendations are a bit touristy- however they’re classics for a reason, and we just couldn’t leave them out.
1.) Melrose Ave
Melrose Ave is a fantastic street to stroll down. There is no shortage of funky shops and restaurants. If that isn’t enticing enough- it’s worth visiting just for the people watching alone as the road is full of eclectic and vibrantly dressed LA locals!
2.) Urth Café
This is our only restaurant recommendation on the list and it couldn’t be more LA. Urth is an organic coffee company serving delicious coffees and teas. Better still, they have an extensive menu of yummy treats, sandwiches, soups and salads. If you get the chance, certainly stop by one of Urth’s five café locations!
You could spend days at LACMA- indeed it is the largest art museum in the western United States with over 120,000 pieces of artwork. The museum houses exceptional collections of Asian, Latin American, European, and American art- so every visitor is bound to be impressed.
4.) Venice Beach
As one of LA’s most famous beaches- it is certainly popular for a reason. The boardwalk is crawling with performers of every sort including musicians, jugglers, acrobats, mimes, magicians and fortune-tellers. You are bound to be entertained no matter where you turn.
5.) Santa Monica Pier
If Venice Beach doesn’t do it for you, stop by Santa Monica Pier. The shore view is unbeatable and there is a plethora of yummy restaurants and shops. The pier is entertaining for people of all ages. In fact, for those with young kids it’s worth checking out Pacific Park- one of Southern California’s most famous attractions.
6.) Griffith Park
The best way to take advantage of SoCal’s sunny weather is to spend some time at Griffith Park. As the largest park in the US there is something for everyone. Go for a hike, a bike ride, a picnic or even some golf! It’s the perfect way to get some fresh air and bask in the sun.
7.) Farmers Market
This market is full of dozens of stalls that sell foods from all over the world. Head here for a taste of some local grub as well as some fantastic Latin American and Asian cuisine. The Farmers Market is open seven says a week- so you don’t have to wait till the weekend for some yummy indulgences.
8.) Hollywood Sign
The Hollywood Sign might be one of LA’s most iconic attractions- making frequent appearances in popular culture. The sign is atop Mount Lee, and is certainly a must see landmark.
9.) Pantages Theatre
This theatre hosts some of the most popular plays and shows of the moment. Its art deco architecture is striking and upon entering you are whisked away into a world of Hollywood glitz and grandeur. Definitely worth a visit, even if you don’t have tickets to see a play!
10.) Dodger Stadium
This stadium is the mecca of baseball. Capacity wise, it is the largest in the country and is the third-oldest ballpark in the US. The vibe is retro-y, but don’t be fooled it is well equipt with modern amenities. When visiting we recommend you munch on their famous dodger dogs!
